With a second baby on the way, and promises of great rewards if he wins Bowman’s case and recovers the painting, defence lawyer Robbie Munro has never been so tempted to fix the odds in his favour.

BOOK REVIEW

This was a slow burner of a book for me, it took a couple of chapters to get to grips with but once I settled down with it I really enjoyed it. The character of Robbie Monroe is a wonderful creation, this is not the first book he features in but it was my first encounter with him. It is as enjoyable as a standalone novel so don’t worry if you have not read any other adventures with Robbie. The authors knowledge of the legal system is obvious throughout the book, with the terminology and procedures he utilises  within the storyline. The plot is nicely paced as Robbie goes from one almost disaster to the next. He wants to do the best for his lowly clientele but they don’t seem to do what’s best for themselves despite his advice. His family life adds to his burdens  , leaving him stuck between a rock and a hard place. He manages to circumvent the rock, jump through  endless hoops and comes out at the end with the semblance of a smile. He is an enjoyable character to follow on his trials and tribulations,  one you find yourself rooting  for as he struggles to  to save the day. Hints of  humour keep you chuckling as you read of him struggling with the women in his life, a heavily pregnant wife, a young daughter and one formidable secretary . None of them give him much peace no matter how hard he tries to maintain  the harmony  between work and home. The odds may seem fixed against Robbie   but this tense, thrilling legal novel will keep you hooked. Fans of Steve Cavanagh will enjoy this series of books.

Thanks to Ceris Jones and Sandstone Press for my copy as always these are my own thoughts and opinions on the book.
