BOOK BLURB

At the peak of her career as lead singer of a legendary 1980s indie band, Meredith Vincent was driven off the international stage by a horrific incident. Now she lives incognito in a cottage on the grounds of Minstead House, an old stately home, whilst working in the gift shop. Her past is behind her and she enjoys her new life.

But a series of inexplicable and unsettling incidents have started to happen around her – broken china, vandalised gardens… And when a body is found in the gardens of Minstead House, Meredith realises that someone is watching, someone who knows who she is and who wants to destroy her…

A dark, riveting and chilling psychological thriller, The Final Stage is a study of secrets and obsessions, where innocent acts can have the most terrifying consequences

BOOK REVIEW

If you want a book that leads you a ‘ Merry dance ‘ then this is for you. From the first chapter you don’t know who is at risk or why and this sees you through right to the end of the book. The main character Meredith goes against all conventions in  her teen years but is that rebellious nature going to come back and haunt her. She was at Greenham Common, she was in love with a girl , she lived in a squat and became a huge pop star. All this she left behind or so she thought, but  no matter how hard you try to run and hide your past can track you down. The author does an amazing job   with the story,   the twines of the plot  they  weave and weft their way through the pages, they never get too knotted to follow through the book . They lead you through two timelines , giving you insight into the mind of a teen Merry and the older more wary Meredith. Even the shortening of her name as a girl conjures the image of a fun loving , free spirit. You sense her freedom during those years which over time  becomes lost as fear permeates her very being.  She may have  visual scars but there are  even deeper scars within her tormented mind as she fears for her life and those she loves. You  could be  Meredith   as even you the reader do not know where the book is going or who is filled with so much hate. A race against time towards the end as the tension builds ready for the revelation that will leave you gasping for breath. Edge of your seat , nail biting tension, thrillingly pacey, this  book has all these and much  more within its cover.

Thanks to Anne Cater and Orenda books for the ARC of the book. As always these are my own thoughts and opinions on the book.
