Can her unlikely new housemates help her realise that maybe the best is yet to come?

BOOK REVIEW

It was to be a celebration of her husbands birthday, friends invited , food prepared and a fabulous cake ready to be presented. Kim has been married for years and believes her life to be practically perfect in every way. A husband she loves and adores and a teenage son ready to set off to university, when the biggest bombshell drops out of the blue. Her husband has been having an affair with the next door neighbour and tells her the night of the birthday party. Reeling from the news and in a state of shock she sets out from her home the day after to take her son to university. Kim and her son Harry arrive at his new digs and are greeted by the new roommates and the fact that Kim still has no clue as to where she will stay. In the end she is persuaded to stay at the student digs overnight, one night becomes two, then weeks fly by. As time goes on Kim starts to learn who she really is after years as a mother and wife. Helped by her new housemates she starts to recover from her newfound status and make attempts at a different life.

Catapulted into a world a million miles away from what she is used to Kim must face a raft of new and unfamiliar thoughts, feelings and places in order to make sense of what has happened to her. This is the start of a woman who for the most of her life so far has been known as something other than just Kim. She has been a daughter , a wife , a mother , a best friend and just a hairdresser. Yet who is the real Kim and will we ever find out what really makes her tick. Yes we will over the course of the book we follow her journey , one fraught with emotions, excruciating situations and making friends. Somewhere between being a parent and mother of one of the boys who share the house and being one of the housemates herself she blossoms. After drowning her sorrows drinking posh wine , throwing up in front of all the boys Kim becomes Kim. A life affirming story of a woman’s journey following a separation. We laugh with her through her tribulations, we want to hold her tight through the tears and cheer her on as she emerges anew. Kim is a caring, thoughtful listener who uses her life skills to help those around her before realising she is ultimately helping herself. A wonderfully poignant story that will lighten your heart as you realise that life is always moving forward and that as long as you look to the future the past won’t hold you down.

My thanks to Anne Cater for my tour invite and copy of the book, as always they are my own thoughts and opinions on the book.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Tracy Bloom started writing when her cruel, heartless husband ripped her away from her dream job, shopping for rollercoasters for the UK’s leading theme parks, to live in America with a brand-new baby and no mates. In a cunning plan to avoid domestic duties and people who didn’t understand her Derbyshire accent, she wrote NO ONE EVER HAS SEX ON A TUESDAY. It went on to become a No.1 bestseller and publishing phenomenon.

Since then Tracy has written many more novels and been published successfully around the world. She now lives back home in Derbyshire with her husband and children.
