Beth and her partner Dax are called to the scene of a brutal crime not only are there bodies but a young girl has been kidnapped. Unfortunately for the girl if the perpetrator follows his previous kill plan she won’t have long to live. Just as the case seems to heat up there is yet another murder in a different county. Has the offender traveled and taken someone else. Beth and Dax start to look into both crimes to see if they are connected in anyway. It’s at this second crime scene that Beths dark side rears it head as she realises this is a case worthy of her own special kind of justice.
I am really enjoying this new series by the author showing murder from a different perspective. We see the world through the eyes of not only a serial killer that of a member of law enforcement. More and more of the life that Beth has led is being unearthed the more we read. Beth is a complex,dynamic character and one that I am enjoying getting to know better. How she is coping with working closely with not only her partner, but with the wider law enforcement community whilst hiding her dark side makes for a great read. As she tries to juggle her need to seek justice for the dead and the need to follow the law the book allows us an insight into what makes her tick. Beth is a character that I enjoy reading about and one I look forward to getting to know as the series progresses.
