Adrift after a divorce and trying to find his place in life Trevor takes off to find himself in the sun. An idyllic retreat beckons him, he will have the time and space to write and reflect on life. The peace will soon be disturbed after the discovery of a backpack full of money and a journal . What follows the discovery sends him on not only a journey back in time but also a journey to discover who the money belonged to and why was it left in the first place. As the story unfolds around Trevor we find him struck by paranoia and fear. Is someone watching him ?, is the money theirs ? How will he find out the owner of the money if the questions he asks make him a target. Whilst the paranoia drives him to desperation the journal becomes an escape. An escape into the dark and horrendous history of the island. A past the locals would see buried , a past they shun but a past that Trevor is determined to uncover. Are the two related , the journal and the money or was it just coincidence they were found together. The book unfolds layer after layer as more of the journal is read. You are transported back in time and get washed away in the feelings of hate and horror the owner of the journal endured. The book gives a truly moving account of what the writer suffered at the hands of the guards and the state for the crime of being gay. It’s poignant, its disturbing yet it never feels totally bleak there is something to the writing that gives a sense of eventual peace for the writer of the journal. A book that will linger at the edge of your memory long after the last page is read.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Award-winning author, Isobel Blackthorn, is a prolific novelist of unique and engaging fiction. She writes across a range of genres, including gripping mysteries and dark psychological thrillers. Isobel was shortlisted for the Ada Cambridge Prose Prize 2019.

Isobel holds a PhD in Western Esotericism from the University of Western Sydney for her ground-breaking study of the texts of Theosophist Alice A. Bailey. Her engagement with Alice Bailey’s life and works has culminated in the biographical novel The Unlikely Occultist and the full biography Alice A. Bailey: Life and Legacy.

Isobel carries a lifelong passion for the Canary Islands, Spain, her former home. Four of her novels are set on the islands of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. These standalone novels are setting rich and fall into the broad genre of travel fiction.

Isobel has led a rich and interesting life and her stories are as diverse as her experiences, the highs and lows, and the dramas. A life-long campaigner for social justice, Isobel has written, protested and leant her weight to a range of issues including asylum seekers and family violence. A Londoner originally, Isobel currently lives in Queensland, Australia.
